Description

Join The Breaking Bannock team for a Powerful Evening at The Phoenix Auditorium!

We’re inviting you to an unforgettable event at The Phoenix Auditorium – The Haven on Gabriola Island, 240 Davis Rd—an evening that combines culture, history, and reflection.

The night will kick off on Thursday April 17 at 5:30 pm with fresh Bannock and refreshments, followed by the screening of the Academy Award-nominated documentary, SUGARCANEat 6:00 PM

SUGARCANE is the groundbreaking debut feature from Julian Brave NoiseCat and Emily Kassie, offering a compelling investigation into the dark history of Indian residential schools. The film sheds light on the forced separation, assimilation, and abuse suffered by Indigenous children, while honouring the strength and resilience of Native communities working to heal from the intergenerational trauma caused by cultural genocide.

This is a crucial and timely story that needs to be heard.
