Description

Monique Gray Smith will be at the Gabriola Library on Thursday, March 26 at 7 pm. Monique and Michelle Benjamin will be in conversation about her inspiring new book Sharing the Light, and then Monique will read and answer questions from the audience. In Fall 2025, Monique was artist in residence at GAC’s Kasahara Trust Artist Residency. An award-winning, best-selling, and internationally recognized author and storyteller, Monique has published numerous books for both children and adults, covering a broad spectrum of themes and ideas. Woven into all of Monique’s writing, speaking engagements, and workshops is the teaching that “love is medicine.” She thinks of literature, both written and oral stories, as the fabric that strengthens society. Monique’s work also weaves together themes of resilience, hope, and the beauty of Indigenous cultures, reflecting her own Cree, Lakota, and Scottish cultures.
