NEW Feature Artist Exhibition LAYERED LANDSCAPES by Natasha Harvey October 11 - Nov 5, 2022 Description: Natasha Harvey hails from Kelowna, she is an established mixed media acrylic painter and printmaker. Come and take in her series of landscapes from her incredibly intricate large scale lino prints to her energetic acrylic and collage paintings. 'My artwork consists of a series of collaged landscape paintings and linocut prints, I am a mixed media artist and collage is a key element in my work. It all begins with walking. I spend time deepening my connection with the land. I incorporate photographs of forests and living things I have documented during such walks in my work. Both collaged paintings and prints explore our relationship with the natural environment. I illustrate how we use land as a resource and hope to communicate how we must reconsider and change this perspective. We need to connect with the land with reverence and love. I want art to be a bridge that shifts our perspective of the land from commodity to kin. I am interested in the materiality of two-dimensional disciplines in visual art. Drawing, painting, photography and printmaking practises are combined and layered in my art-making process. My most recent mixed media paintings depict landscapes. Juxtaposing images and attempting to combine found materials, photographs and painting techniques weaves a layered poetic narrative. The linocut prints depict a forested wild landscape. The trees illustrated no longer exist, in their place, houses have been built or are in the process of construction. The carving process contrasts with the collaged work. It is a quiet, contemplative process. The process is meticulous, it takes time, love and care. Documenting forests that have been clear-cut through the slow process of relief printmaking is like a memorial of sorts. Landscape art has the potential to inspire and communicate a reverence for the earth. This discourse could potentially encourage choices of care and contingency towards the land. Rather than seeing the environment as a resource to be used, a connection could alter this perception from resource to relative, as we are all elemental.' - Natasha Harvey
