Coffeehouse on Gabriola featuring BONEYARD BABES
Friday, October 24, 2025 (6:30 PM - 10:00 PM) (PDT)
Description
The Boneyard Babes are a combination of indigenous and queer-identifying musicians committed to building a sense of community through music. With a wide representation of originals, traditional folk, roots and old country, their music is embodied percussion, deep rich harmonies and a powerful female presence. Their music evokes a deep sense of healing connection to mother earth and Turtle Island, bringing warmth, kindness, humour and passion, which is evident in the songs and all they do. Nancy Potvin (vocals, guitar) is Anishinaabe kwe (woman) from the Kebaowek and Nipissing First Nations. Nancy comes from a large, musical family and writes powerful songs around issues facing indigenous people. Kathy Omalley’s percussion journey began with piano lessons at age 6, and blossomed while playing drums for one of Victoria’s earliest all-female punk bands in her youth. Jennifer Louise Taylor (guitar, baritone ukulele, vocals) writes songs that bring people together. Her mother, a classically trained musician, lived with Woody Guthrie in the early years of the New York coffee houses. Surrounded by music from an early age and growing up overseas, Jennifer continues to see music as the best universal language.
