COVID vs CLIMATE CHANGE

Friday, March 17, 2023 7:00 PM - Sunday, March 19, 2023 4:00 PM (PDT)

Description

Show date: March 17 – 19 at the Gabriola Arts & Heritage Centre Express, through any medium, the relationship between COVID and Climate Change. Use your artistic language to engage the viewer in a discussion into a deeper understanding of how these two catastrophic events of our lifetime are intertwined. This is an art show for the sake of art and the sake of discussion. Works are not for sale, but the 12 artists chosen for the show will be paid $350 each to exhibit their work for three days. The work will be professionally displayed, there will be an opening night, and interested artists will be given a chance to speak about their work on Saturday. On Sunday, Sustainable Gabriola will build on their initiative Gabriola Climate 12-12-12 and address the topic while engaging the community in seeking solutions or, at the very least, a great discussion. Artists are invited to submit their concept and a selection of 3-5 works for artistic reference to be considered by a panel of peers. The concept will be adjudicated on artistic merit, use of materials, understanding of the theme, and potential to evoke conversation. The submitted works will be used as a reference to the artist’s skill, creativity, and depth of the subject. The finished work is available for photography on March 3. Delivered for the show on March 16.
