Fluid Thought - Karen Cain - An exhibition of paintings inspired by Jazz

Tuesday, April 2, 2024 10:00 AM - Saturday, April 20, 2024 4:00 PM (PDT)

Description

This solo exhibition of Karen Cain, celebrates the exploration of jazz music and its improvisational , flowing and creative aspects. The works follow an incredible playful flow of lines, forms and textures moving across her canvases. Like many abstract expressionists before her Karen has harnessed and visualized the freedom of jazz music. The canvases in this exhibition vibrate with sensations from cool and smooth to the fast be bop faster tempo.

Karen Cain has had a Gabriola Island professional studio practice since 1996. Her work has been featured in Gabriola's most beautiful homes and widely collected. She is known for her popular 'Contemporary Frescoes' and 'Sculptural Paintings'.

She always approaches her work with "a mindful act of constructing/deconstructing the surface, inscribing organic rhythms, and layering colour, create a distillation of experience. Intuitive, expressive, sensual, and transitory, my abstracts are reflecting equivalents in nature. Themes of landscape and memory are evocative of a moment caught in time."

“Put it this way: Jazz is a good barometer of freedom… In its beginnings, the United States of America spawned certain ideals of freedom and independence through which, eventually, jazz was evolved, and the music is so free that many people say it is the only unhampered, unhindered expression of complete freedom yet produced in this country.”
