In Killaloe, Ontario, the temperature is rising for the 27^th annual Wayne Rose Memorial Chili Cook Off in Kristen Da Silva’s hot comedy, Five Alarm. Wayne Rose’s daughter, Ava (Shiela Ginn), yearns to honour her father’s memory by finally bringing home the trophy. She’s tried (and failed) for 26 years but this year she’s determined. In her corner is her new helper, Ellen (Wendy Phillips), a quirky woman whose sunny outlook and can-do spirit almost make up for her complete lack of cooking skills.

Their fiercest rival is five-time winner Connie (Ruth Shamai), flanked by her ambitious but friendly sidekick Tucker (Garth Axelson). Connie, fueled by grief and resentment, arrives braced for heated combat rather than a day of chopping vegetables. Before the day is over, childhood secrets will be exposed, blood will be shed, and a pot of chili will be tossed. And the winner of the cook-off? No spoilers here, you’ll have to see for yourself.

Directed by Kerry Woodrow, Five Alarm is a lighthearted, affectionate look at friendship, simmering small-town feuds, and love, old and new.
