Description
I do love colour, contrast, and movement as you can see from my work! When I started this series, my beautiful subjects came alive. Their petals stretched, waved, and even danced! Some became almost sexual and erotic. I guess it is no wonder, since flowers are proud to display their beautiful sexual organs for all the world to see.
My work often portrays the flower as dramatically oversized. They are powerful and will stand up and overpower even us humans! I often think of the tenancy of plants. They just don’t give up! Humans as a species may die, if so the plants of the earth will thrive and blossom, even better without us!
I am always pulling up very small and very cute fir trees from my gravel driveway. This amazes me. These little guys are starting their lives in the harsh, dry gravel. If I was gone, they would be free to reclaim their forest, and they would.
In 1997, I went shopping for a large painting to put up on a huge empty wall of my house.
I discovered, in a gallery in Edmonton, a Victoria artist named Nixie Barton. I purchased a work of hers called “Tulips in a Pear Vase”. I have treasured this colourful painting and it has brightened the walls of every place I have lived in the past 26 years. Nixie is indeed my inspiration! Thank you, Nixie!
Please feel the joy these paintings aim give to you. Wave hello, even sway a bit, and dance with them if you like! Enjoy!
